Kingston
Blount 23rd April 2005
The
St Georges Day fixture saw the first running of the Southern
Grand National. At 4 miles and 2 furlongs the longest race
in the country for pointers or hunter chasers. If anyone tells
you they've seen a better race this season, anywhere! They
will be fibbing.. All dissappointment we may have felt at
the relatively small entry was lost as we witnessed the titanic
struggle for victory. When James Tudor finally stuck Murphys
Magics nose in front at the judge everyone on the course knew
they had been part of something special. If future runnings
are half as good as this they'll have to put the prices up!
In the process Tudor notched a treble for himself and trainer
Lawney Hill. Elsewhere on the card there were excellent supporting
contests, with honourable mention to Ben King who produced
the Karen Lawther trained Lawman from fourth to rise at the
last to first with a perfectly timed and decisive finishing
burst.
