First
meeting of the year at the Oxfordshire course saw last seasons
principle performers carry on where they left off in 2004
Leading Horse Mr Splodge notched his 5th course and distance
win and Jockey James Tudor clocked up a double for trainer
Lawney Hill who also weighed in with a couple of seconds.
This
meeting also saw a break with tradition with the running of
the first ever shortened maiden at 2 miles and 5 Furlongs.
This innovation was rapidly followed by the second such race
in course history when it proved such a popular choice that
the field had to be split ioto two divisions on safety grounds.
